A Novel Approach to Education: My Experience with Flipped Classroom Approach

What Is The Flipped Classroom Approach?

Flipped learning, or the flipped classroom approach, is the opposite of traditional classroom-based education. It aims to provide students with pre-knowledge before the classroom session. Doing so ensures that students have a deep understanding, which is the utmost advantage of this approach. Additionally, it helps language teachers manage and use class time more effectively. Before class, students can review key vocabulary, grammar principles, and sentence structures using videos or worksheets. This allows the teacher to focus in-class time on practical applications such as conversation or inductive tasks.

What Do You Guys Think This Has To Do With My Blog?

YESSS, GOOD GUESS!!! 😀It is time for my second task! We were assigned to create a flipped video and several interactive activities using this method.

For this assignment, we worked in groups of three; I was with my previous groupmates again in this assignment. My friend Pelin handled the warm-up part of the video. Alperen was responsible for the overall lecture by matching the percentages with the correct adverbs, and I was in charge of the practice part at the end of the video. Other than that, the activities and worksheets are all the joint product of the three of us.

The most challenging aspect of this assignment was filming myself and creating a video because it was the first time I had made such a video. It was not easy, and I attempted to film the correct version of myself several times.

We created a flipped video where we teach the frequency adverbs. Then, as a homework, we prepared a table that includes activities and days of the week, and each activity stands for a frequency adverb based on the frequency. Later, we asked students to choose the correct adverb in the interactive activity where we provided sentences with blanks to be filled according to the table given, and we designed these sentences with the help of WordWall. Additionally, for the classroom session, we created a Taboo Game to play with the students with the help of Canva. You can access to our lesson plan here.

Stay tuned for my next blog! Until then, don’t forget to watch our video, like it, and leave a comment below. Adios!
