AR and VR: Revolution in Language Teaching

Hej,
When I put a picture from Copenhagen on the main page of this blog, I didn’t expect to be working on a task about this beautiful city. But life is full of surprises. I am here to discover Copenhagen with the help of AR VR.
AR/VR, also known as augmented reality and virtual reality, are the recent concepts of our world. AR is the combination of real life with the virtual one, while VR is fully virtual. Both of them help students experience the real world in an abstract, risk-free space. They are really helpful, especially in situations where anxiety is a problem. Also, the use of AR/VR is motivating and fun for students. However, because of the expense and its technical requirements, it can be hard sometimes to use them in classes.
As with past assignments, I’m working with my friends Pelin and Alperen. Our task is to create an material where students can explore a city abroad using AR and VR, such as through 360° videos and 3D objects. For it, we choose the stunning city of Copenhagen, where I did my exchange studies last semester. We included famous landmarks like Nyhavn, Tivoli Gardens, the National Museum of History, and the Distortion Festival. We created questions for each location and assigned a homework project where students would design a poster.
Choosing which landmarks to include and design of the material was the biggest challenge.Alperen was in charge of collecting the sources and creating the project, while Pelin and I worked on the material design and QR codes. For our materials, we used Canva for design, QR code generators, Google maps, Youtube and specific website of the museum.
This project was a lot of fun, and I believe students will enjoy it as well. I plan to incorporate AR/VR in my future classes, as it is interactive, enjoyable, and fosters active participation.
As the semester draws to a close, I'll see you in the coming weeks with the final assignment, but for now, that's it. Vİ SES!!!
Here is our material and lesson plan
